Rick (or anyone in group)

Updates frequently will be great at home but a PAIN at the office. At work
there is a firewall and I can't register my JAWS copy through the
traditional internet. I have to go the FS Activate route which is a lot more
hassle. So does this mean I will have to download and reinstall JAWS
version 8 each time there is an update or will just the update portion be
able to b downloaded and then installed through an executable file? I can't
click on the update option as the firewall will not allow an interactive
connection. Can my company "selectively" allow a connection to Freedom
Scientific without compromising the system integrity? Surely I cannot be
the only one on here with this situation.

thanks
Al

and said he hoped to have updates about every 6 weeks.

There has always been a JAWS version upgrade every year about this time with
a minor update to that new version in the spring. Now that the automatic
update feature is available, I strongly suspect that we'll see more frequent
updates. There will have to be an update to support the Microsoft Vista
operating system when it becomes available after the first of the year and
I'm sure that will be an automatic update that can simply be downloaded and
installed.

I suspect that Freedom Scientific felt some urgency because of the
significant changes Microsoft has implemented with Internet Explorer. No
doubt FS would have liked a bit more time to interface with such major
changes, but all in all I don't find anything glaringly objectionable about
Version 8.0 -- at least to this point.
