If Jaws is set to run at startup, it is running as a service, so when you unload Jaws, and then re-load it with your shortcut key, itt is then running as an application. Jaws can be running from the system tray, but it is still running as an service. It is possible to have Jaws start as an application when the computer boots, but the log-in screen will not be available to you. This is because when Jaws is running as a service, it is loaded before Windows is fully loaded to give speech access to the log-in screen. When itt is run as an application,itt is loaded after Windows is loaded. I can tell you how to start Jaws as an application, but I found that particular method can have unexpected side-effects, that may vary from machine to machine, so I wouldn't recommend it to others since it seems to be unstable.
