I thought the same with velocity when we switched and took ant out of
build/lib (our /lib) and required 1.4, and it went a lot better than I
thought it would.

It's actually not a problem - there never has been one complaint after the
initial surprised, and I just made sure all the docs said the right things.

Developers will have ant, or should :)

It is easier.  I am neutral, but I know that not having it included is ok -
it works.  But no big deal.
