Hi Marc,
I'm running FreeBSD 4.1.1 on my laptop. It's a bitch to configure for your
laptop (PCMCIA and x-server) but once it is up and running.
I'm running JDK1.3 (for Linux since BSD has a Linux emulator). It has worked
fine so far, but I haven't tried out JBoss on there yet.

As far as the FreeBSD ports, they have a jdk1.2.2 port already and a 1.3 is
coming

but hey, even the largest financial companies are using FreeBSD on the front
to secure their servers. Even Nokia firewalls have an OS based on the BSD
system. It is know for its security, but it not as commercially used and
accepted. For example getting Oracle 8i to run on your FreeBSD is a
nightmare, I wouldn't encourage you to try it :)

I hear you, I am totally the same way, and on numerous time I find myself
still fucking around in the C code, so that is why I switched to RedHat, it
came in a really nice box too :)

Once I get off my current project (soon :) I will have more time to play
around with Jboss on FreeBSD, if I find it working well I will let you know.
