Regarding the discussions on Hypersonic SQL, there are some points worth
adding.
1. Hypersonic SQL is shipped with the Orion commercial web server
(www.orionserver.com) as the default rdms. When I raised this identical
question, someone from the Orion team said it is still a good database for
getting started and prototyping.
2. There is some discussion on the hypersonic user list about peopled
taking over and reviving the project, which would be good if accomplished.
3. Jboss also ships with InstantDB, which is similar to Hypersonic SQL, and
is being actively developed, and free for usage.
4. For real applications, you can use a commercial product like Oracle, or
in lieu of such a product, due to cost or size, use a product like
Postgresql or Mysql.
