I think that the difference is litte if you use the best jdks on both platforms (ibm/sun 1.4 for linux), but linux is far more stable and easier to work with than windows. We run on SuSE.de. And I think linux has a better memory/swap/disk-handling than win. It utilizes most of the memory for buffers, while win might let the memory be free (i.e. don't use it).
