I am no JNDI authenticatione expert (except that I read somewhere that JBoss does not support it). For the JAAS one, the JAAS tutorial available with the standard JDK provides all the naswer you need, in particular about this auth.conf file that can be located anywhere as long as you provide a path to it using the -Djava.security.auth.login.config option at the startup of your JVM.
