Also, when ant 6 is working, we can use the scp task to deploy the maven site to shell.sourceforge.net
It would be nice if someone comes up with an ant task that can handle all elements of the release (that you do via the web now), but that is beyond what I think we can do.
In terms of the UsersGuide, it should be understood that the pdf doc is likely not to build correctly. For example, Luca is doing some work now and while the html will output, it's not valid docbook for the moment and the pdf is pickier and will likely choke. I should think that testers could get by on the html docs though.
