I have just managed to get 20.3.1 working under dos fine.
You need to start it directly (emacs rather than runemacs) with the
"-nw" (no window) command, which is also the standard on unix boxes
for the same reason. At least it works fine 'cept for an error from my
.emacs which assumes a win32 frame is in use! Well I dont know whether
20.3.1 still interacts with djgpp in the same way that 19.34 does, but
it should definately be worth a try.

Its a little bit of a pain if this isnt documented. Emacs
under unix auto probes the environment and uses an X Frame if it can,
so -nw is very rarely needed (I use it because -nw is quicker to start
up, and more appropriate if using it as a visual editor for unix mail)
but windows doesnt have the same idea of the console vs a windowing
environment so emacs probably cant tell if you are running a maximised
dos window which is I image is your situation.
