You have missed that when you specify a portnumber from the command
line, it can only contain 4 digits, but when you let JPDA define the
port it will give give you a 5 digit port number... ;)

We have a similiar problem. When we give the suspend=n flag, we can't
connect to the VM, we get a connection refused message. Have anyone else
experienced this problem?
