Yes, debugging with HotSpot/Solaris jdk 1.3 is broken. I use OptimizeIt
for code profiling - it uses the same debugging api as the JDE, AFAIK -
and the VM dumps core shortly after you start a profiling (debugging)
session. :-(
The engineer at Intuitive told me that they've been working with the Sun
folks and that 1.3.1 (slated for March release) appears to resolve the
bugs that prevent OptimizeIt from working with hotspot+solaris.
In the meantime, I'm profiling my app using the '-classic' VM on linux
jdk 1.3, since no classic VM is available on Solaris. OptimizeIt, by
the way, is a terrific tool - I enthusiastically recommend it.
