You've changed major modes and thereby eliminated the logic required to
collapse and expand widgets.
In any case, what you've done is overkill. You just need to enable
font-locking for the buffer.
Font-locking the locals buffer is a brilliant idea and I will do it for the
next release, which will occur shortly, probably this weekend.
