Error message

Has anyone seen the following?  It appears to only happen with .java
files:

Setting JDE variables to startup values...
File mode specification error: (args-out-of-range "" -1 0)
Fontifying Count.java...
Fontifying Count.java... (regexps.............)
File mode specification error: (args-out-of-range "" -1 0)
