Unfortunately, Kevin, this is not off-topic for the JDE list. From
the sound of the error message, Kevin has installed an old version of
Cygwin, probably B20.1, as instructed by the current JDE
documentation. These instructions are out of date, and I've promised
to re-write them, but I won't get to it this week.
Mike's remedy is appropriate for the current version of Cygwin, known
as the "latest net release". But in this version, /tmp is always
created, so the issue never comes up.
Kevin, when you installed Cygwin, did you get a shortcut to a bash
shell in your start menu? It might have been called "Cygnus
Solutions" (they are now Red Hat). Invoke that, and simply type
'mkdir /tmp'.
Do it that way, and /tmp is sure to be in the right place.
For those so inclined, the latest version of Cygwin is available at
<http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/>. But remember in this case the
instructions for JDE will be slightly different. I'll have more
details in about a week.
Good luck!
