Ensime would be a great basis for a fork.
As Paul pointed out elsewhere in this thread: the real problem with JDEE
is that very few people have the motivation/energy to contribute major
changes. I know that I personally have not written any non-trivial Java
code in almost 2 years now. Even the little bit of serious production
quality work I did in that period was small enough that JDEE was enough
(just a few Emacs hacks to work with Maven instead of Ant).
So while JDEE has served me well for over a decade I just don't know
when I'm going to be able to take a good crack at it (even assuming I am
capable of doing so!). I'd love to try, I still find elisp a joy to use,
but I simply don't know when....
