You can also use offset integers as long as you don't have to support too 
large a number. (In other words, for USD treat the penny or 10th of a penny 
as the unit of measure.) This is only fails for currencies that have 
suffered periods of overinflation and haven't readjusted--e.g. the 
Indonesian rupiah which is like 10,000. to the dollar. For USD & euro the 
long type is adequate for most purposes.
