The feature you are looking for is called a titled border (swing class: javax.swing.border.TitledBorder).
And, might I add, as an aside to the regulars here, that this is a GREAT question to answer on this group. The asker knows exactly what they are trying to accomplish, but does not know any of the terminology related to accomplishing it (except "Swing").
