no, the controller doesn't recognize that Jenkins has already started - this is due to different (default) logging format in tomcat 8. Replacing AsyncFileHandle by FileHandler in logging.properties should fix the problem (or just simply replace logging.properties by logging.properties taken from tomcat 7).
