Hi Folks,

Jess 4.2 is now available for download in the usual place:

        http://herzberg.ca.sandia.gov/jess/download.html

4.2 has no new features, but fixes a couple of long-standing bugs and
generally improves quality. Here's the README blurb:

Fixed 'Corrupted negcnt' bug (thanks to Todd Bowers). (if ... then)
function now throws an exception if atom 'then' is missing. Version
string in 4.1 final was inadvertently left at 4.1b6. Added section to
README explaining rule LHS semantics a bit better. Rete.findFactByID()
is now public. Fix for very tricky 'phantom fact' problem reported by
Steve Bucuvalas. Java method calls on Jess Strings now work for all
Strings, not just alphanumeric ones. "animals" example modified to
        work with transitional gensym implementation.

Jess 4.2 is still Java 1.0 compatible (still gives 'deprecated'
warnings on compilation.) I should send out the first 5.0 alpha
release sometime next week, and this one, as I said before, is 1.1+
only (no warnings). I know there are people whose managers care about
this stuff!

Feedback, as usual, is welcome. Have fun!
