In the catalina.sh or catalina.bat.
At the top of the file with the JAVA_HOME and CATALINA_HOME, put CATALINA_OPTS= .....

Also, if you use different browsers, does it make a difference?  Or is it server side 
slowdown that is the
same for both browsers?
