The head of the UN Mission in South Sudan has called upon the
government of the Republic of South Sudan to review the UN- SPLA
action plan on the end of the recruitment and use of child soldiers.

Speaking to the press on Friday, Hilde Johnson said the new United
Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) will assist the Republic of
South Sudan to strengthen child protection activities in the country.

She encouraged the government to ratify and implement key
international human rights treaties and conventions, including those
related to women, children and refugees.

She also asked the government to improve women's participation in
post- independence issues and to involve more South Sudanese women in
public decision making.
