By Gabriel Mayom RUMBEK, 28th August, 2011 [Gurtong] – Local Authorities in Rumbek Central County of Lake State have issued provisional orders prohibiting grazing of cows within Rumbek township, airing pornographic films in public cinema halls as well as noise pollution from bars inside Rumbek market. Speaking to journalists in his office last Friday, the Rumbek Town Clerk Mr. Mabor Chawuop Mabor instructed cattle owners to move their livestock out of town immediately within 48hrs or legal measures will be pursued. The provisional order indicated a fine of 150 SSP or a one year imprisonment if found guilty. Mabor said, “Yes, I have being instructed through an order, to inform business owners in town and members of the public to keep the town tidy. Those who are in residential areas must also cut the grass and keep their surroundings neat to protect themselves from diseases...if they don’t do so; the law will be applied.” “Anybody found roaming with his cattle in the town will be arrested and taken to the court,” he added. Night bar owners at residential areas seem not to respect the direct orders; others remain open overnight while playing loud music throughout the week. Mabor explained that, “all the bars in the residential areas should operate up to 10pm except during weekends. Any violation will lead to legal measures and business licenses will be cancelled or they will be imprisoned for a month or both”. He also added that all houses must dig pit latrines within two months. Anybody who fails to do so attracts a fine of 150 SSP or one month imprisonment.
