RUMBEK, 6th September, 2011 [Gurtong] – The Lakes State leading
fuelling company Dalbit International Limited in Rumbek County has
reported that their diesel stock has run out; with Jet A-1 fuel for
planes only available and also expected to get depleted within 2
weeks.

This is the second time that Rumbek, the capital of Lakes State is
faced with fuel shortage as well as increasing prices in the local
market.

While speaking to press in his office yesterday, Abraham Chol the
Dalbit site manager said that his company had completely run out of
diesel and petrol for the last four days. He alleged that bad roads
network had hampered transportation of fuel from East Africa to newest
Republic of South Sudan especially to Lakes State located in the heart
of South Sudan.

Dalbit International limited has been serving Lakes State since
September 2004. The company is owned by a Kenyan businessman and
local workers are drawn from different Counties of Lakes State. The
company supplies Jet-A1, diesel, patrol and various lubricants.

Chol affirmed that, “We have notified the Lakes State government as
well as the civilians that we have run short of fuel, diesel and
patrol.” The site manager affirmed that Jet-A1 fuel for plane is
accessible but it will finish sooner if the roads are not repaired
this week.

He appealed for the government to repair main roads connecting all the
States, Counties and the neighbouring countries. He advised them not
to think of air transport alone.

However, an official from Lakes State Ministry of Physical
Infrastructure said that main roads construction projects is the
responsibility of the National Government of South Sudan – he affirmed
that State government is only responsible in constructing feeder roads
within Lakes State.
