Three Arrested In Mapel Market Over Fake Currency

WAU, 4th August 2011 [Gurtong] - Local police officers at Mapel main
market of Jur River County arrested three South Sudanese nationals
found publicly exchanging fake South Sudanese pounds in exchange for
the new ones to the local traders in the market.

The three men were caught during evening hours in the market
exchanging fake 25 SSP by buying small items worth 1 pound and they
demand back some balance of 24 SSP, Jur River County Commissioner
Mulana Akol Majok Rok Awar told Gurtong.

According to the commissioner’s statement, the culprits left Juba on
23rd of August 2011 to Yirol County of Lake State and they arrived in
Mapel later on 27 of the same month when they started exchanging the
fake money to the public.

The suspects; Uyul Kulang Nak, Simon Kon Kachuol and Abraham Matiup
Dhal are all from Yirol County of Lake State.

Uyul Kulang who confessed to be the leader said that a man known to
them as Abdul used to give them 3,000 fake South Sudanese Pounds for
exchange with the new ones, in turn he paid them 150 SSP each.

The three men explained to the county commissioner that during they
were sent from Juba by a fake money producer, only indentified as
Abdul, a Ugandan by nationality.

Abdul was also arrested in Juba after the suspects agreed to disclosed
his whereabouts and location.

Over 7,100 fake South Sudanese Pounds were confiscated in Mapel town
after the suspects were arrested and the money sent to authorities in
Wau for future consideration on whether to compensate the affected
traders through the State government.

Commissioner Akol Majok called on the entire citizens of WBGS to hand
over any fake money they Posses to the State government.
