WAU, 6th September, 2011 [Gurtong] - The Lord Resistance Army (LRA) on
Sunday attacked Raga County of Western Bahr el Gazal State and
abducted 2 young men, looted food and non food items, 3 AK 47 and the
Deim Jallab clinic, said Raga County Commissioner Rizik Dominic
Samuel.

“The attacks occurred last Sunday at 5 pm 24 miles west of Raga town,
the LRA rebels who were fiercely moving together with abducted women
and children, attacked Deim Jallabi Police station where they looted
three guns and attacked every household while taking clothes and
abducted 4 young men of whom two managed to escape, “said Commissioner
Rizik.

While describing it as a threat to his County and Western Barh el
Gazal as a whole, Rizik said that he had informed the State authority
and some armed forces have been sent to quell any threats.

Last month, the LRA attacked Raga County 3 times and abducted four
people, “it’s not the first time they are attacking Raga County, since
the beginning of the year, they carried out 5 systematic attacks in
the County where a school teacher was abducted in Deim Zubeir, a young
girl in Sopo and now 2 missing gentlemen in Deim Jallab,” said
Commissioner Rizik.

This latest LRA attack in Western Bahr El Gazal State suggests that
the rebel group is still active and poses a threat to the newly
Independent South Sudan.

“The last week attack in which a police post was attacked and 3 guns
looted can either tells how desperate the LRA are in getting guns or
the numbers of recruits have increase hence could be in a great demand
for guns,” said Rizik.

“It is undeniable that LRA attacks in Western Bahr El Gazal have
increased in the last two months, it is apparent that LRA actions are
more strategic but with no clear purpose,” He added.

“Their movement together with women and children going to the west of
Raga towards Central Africa Republic tells me that the LRA are
relocating,” the commissioner revealed.

The recent attacks have raised concerns about a potentially
reorganized and restocked LRA attacks in Western Equatoria and Western
Bahr El Gazal States.
