TORIT 3rd October 2011 [Gurtong] – Eastern Equatoria State (EES)
Authorities have collected more than 4,000 cartons of tiger gins,
coffee spirit & empire types of illegal alcohol brands from Omoliha
market for confiscation.

These illicit alcoholic drinks were collected following a thorough
search by security personnel comprising of police, wildlife, civil
defend (preferably known as fire brigade), prison warders and the
Sudan People Liberation Army (SPLA) division 2. The search commenced
on Thursday last week at Omoliha market in Torit, the State capital of
Eastern Equatoria State (EES).

The search team was co-led by acting Governor, Nartisio Loluke Manir,
the host Commissioner of Torit, Felix Otuduha Siro and SPLA’s acting
commander in EES.

John Ngang Mabil is among the victims whose small company known as
‘SAM limited’ lost 2,000 cartons of tiger gins and empire alcohol
brands during the confiscation exercise.

He regretted the loss and blamed the mission for hurriedly executing
the exercise.

While his colleague, Thuoch Kuoch an aged South Sudanese businessman
was among the affected persons as he incurred big losses at his shop,
280 cartons were found and collected by the forces for confiscation.

The move followed orders passed by the State parliament of Eastern
Equatoria last week prompting the executive to implement it to the
latter, the authorities said.

Last week, the State Legislative Assembly passed two related Bills;
ban of movement of guns by security forces while not on duty,
collection of illegal firearms in the markets and residential homes
and ban of illicit alcoholic drinks.

The acting Governor Nartisio Loluke Manir who doubles as the State
Deputy Governor and Local Government Minister said that the forbidden
drinks imported from neighbouring countries are a health hazard to
humans and urged the population to join the mission’s war against
outlawed alcohol importation and to discourage people from consuming
it.

While at the market hon. Loluke urged the public to remain calm and
cooperate with the ongoing exercise. He explained that ‘Peace and
Justice Mission’, is a State Government mission initiated and
established by the State Council of Ministers shortly after the
formation of the Government in May 2010; with prime objective of
dealing with petty crimes, public disorders, cattle raids, banditry,
highway robberies among others.

After the ongoing search and collection, the government authorities
are expected to destroy the illegal alcohol brabds by burning the
collected cartons.
