And I have an even further update that actually fixes this problem, even in my Office 2003 applications. Follow these steps and it should work (I have Windows 7, so your steps may vary if running another version):
1. Go to Start and press Enter or press the Windows Key (should put you in a search box); 2. Press Up Arrow (should place you in the All Programs submenu); 3. Press Right Arrow once (should put you in the search box again); 4. Press Up Arrow twice (should put you in a list of your applications); 5. Press the letter J until you hear "JAWS 17.0"; 6. Arrow down to Explore JAWS; 7. Press Right Arrow to open; 8. Arrow down to Explore my Settings; 9. Search for a folder named Command Search and either delete or rename it (I placed a pound sign in position 1 of the file name to hide it from JAWS). This fixed the problem for me, even in my old version of Outlook. -----Original Message----- From: Walt Smith [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, January 12, 2016 9:01 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: search for JAWS commands After some further exploration, I found that in JAWS 17 and IE 11, I did get some results. For example, entering the word "move" (without the quotes, of course) did get me the expected results. Obviously, the changes they made to the library for the function have seriously restricted it and it doesn't work at all with older applications like my Office 2003. My point still stands, however: they can't supply scripts for Outlook 2003 and then claim they don't support it. -----Original Message----- From: Walt Smith [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, January 12, 2016 8:54 AM To: '[email protected]' Subject: RE: search for JAWS commands Same here. In JAWS 16, the command works flawlessly; in 17.1214, it fails miserably with the identical text input. I just got off the phone with JAWS tech support and got a big argument because he got the same results as we're seeing here -- things that worked for him in 17 didn't work for me. He claimed that "they made changes in the library" for that particular application (Was this announced as a change?) and then argued with me because I'm running MS Office 2003 and "We no longer support anything that old." I told him that I wouldn't accept that because they continue to supply scripts and they can't have it both ways -- claiming they no longer support Office 2003 while continuing to supply scripts for it. He hung up on me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -- JFW related links: JFW homepage: http://www.freedomscientific.com/ JFW List instructions: To post a message to the list, send it to [email protected] To unsubscribe from this mailing list, send a message to [email protected] Archives located at: http://www.groups.io/g/jfw/threads Alternative archives located at: http://n2.nabble.com/JAWS-for-Windows-f2145279.html If you have any concerns about the list, posts received from the list, or the way the list is being run, do not post them to the list.
