Let's don't forget the possibility to make the site a homepage. In IE7 and
higher you can have multiple home pages. Firefox allows it too.

Here's an idea.
Create a standard desktop program icon for Internet Explorer. Then edit so
that you are running the executable file for Internet Explorer, and then
follow it with a space and the URL for the web site of interest.
If it works, then maybe that can be pinned to the taskbar, since it's
actually a program.

Thanks Jim. That works if I want to pin a program. However if I am
trying to pin a web site, I don't get the pin to tashbar option.
What I've done as a compromise is, after putting a link on the
desktop, I set up a hot key to invoke it. It isn't exactly what I
intended but it gets the job done.
