All,
Regarding the topic of the user interphase of phones available to the blind community, there are two aspects of this topic that I know to be important to understand. 1. Voice command. 2. Navigation. Note: my experience has ben with the Iphone exclusively. Voice command: I am frequently frustrated in using the voice command of the Iphone when compared to the same experience of my sighted companions using the android based phones. In my experience the Iphone does poorly when driving it by voice. The issues I have are that when speaking you cannot pause your speech as the Iphone will assume your done and cut you off with its prompt forcing you then to repeat the whole text or phone number over again. I also notice that when comparing the voice command UI to the android the Iphone is less accurate than the android. My android companions can find locations and look up relevant topics quicker than can I with my Iphone. Navigation: This seems to be where the Iphone exceeds the android. I have not used the current version of the Iphone nor the current version of android product however from what I know the Iphone is easier to navigate for the blind user. Navigation is arguably the primary concern of the user since if you can't get where you need to be the device is fundamentally useless. However I have been very frustrated with the Iphone's lack of functionality as it relates to voice command and thus I am very interested to know if the android product has improved as it relates to navigation of a blind user on the device's platform since the latest update of the Iphone has actually made my device harder to use. Is there anyone who has experience with both UI's and can comment? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
