Important step: The post below mentions adding RAM with no noticeable improvement. It sounds like a problem with the processor getting bogged down. But it is important to note the following: By default Windows manages your virtual memory, or paging file, as a "custom size." This means if your computer has 4 GB of RAM, your virtual memory setting is probably 4 GB as well. However, if you add an additional 4 GB of RAM, your virtual memory does not increase in size. This leads to all sorts of weird behaviors. We used to see it when I was in radio.

Solution: If you upgrade the RAM in your machine, you really need to adjust your virtual memory settings, or better yet, allow Windows to manage this setting for you. How you do this depends on your version of Windows, but the general steps are similar: Find your System control Panel, and change system settings. You want the Advanced Tab, then Performance Settings, then that Advanced tab again. Change the virtual memory for your C: drive; the default setting is "custom size" and you want "System managed size" instead. Set that change, then OK your way out of the various dialogs and reboot.

We had a computer where this was a problem, and one of my announcers was trying to record a simple weather forecast. About every third word was chopped out of the audio file, all because the virtual memory setting was too low. Setting the setting as I've described it above will not only fix it for you now, but should you make further memory changes (increasing or decreasing it) Windows will adjust accordingly.

Hope this helps,
Brad

I actually have an escalated case with FS, and was told to call someone back, but I got the person's voice mail three times.

The problem is this: Since about a month ago I have had problems reading long messages in Mozilla Thunderbird, particularly digests with long tables of contents. At some point, there are frequent and increasingly longer pauses, and sometimes Jaws resets itself, putting me back at the top of the message. In places well into the message, the computer becomes sluggish. I have recently noticed that when Alt-tabbing away from TB, even when there is not a lockup, Thunderbird is reluctant to relinquish focus. The long messages read fine when View Source is used, or the message is saved as a text file, or the contents are copied and pasted into Notepad.

I have read the messages with success using Jaws 15. Even when I did a complete uninstall and re-install of 16, I have the same problems. There does not seem to be a difference between using the normal configuration or the third party Thunderbird Blind scripts. More ram was added to the computer, and still no change.

If anyone has had similar experiences,or has suggestions on how to handle this, I would appreciate. Thanks.
