I have mine in normal layout, but very occasionally do have sort of lock-up problem with JAWS - do exactly as Barbara said, unload and reload. Sometimes running Spell Check, whether I'm through or not with an e-mail gets it all back in sync.

What I found is that changing the view from "print layout" to "normal layout" makes all the difference. I don't know if you have a similar option in Word 2010, but I thought I'd put it out there.
