I not going to argue with you about UNIX and NT. All I say is they both
have a place or they both won't be here still.
On the Windows 2000 note, THEIR will be a Personal Edition which is made
for home use based on Windows 98. It is because not everyone will have a
powerful computer to run Windows 2000 Professional. "Zolna would not confirm
that Microsoft will call the next Windows 98 follow-on "Windows 2000
Personal Edition," as sources close to the company have indicated. He also
said he had no information on when users should expect beta or final code
for the new Windows release. Customers can expect the product to ship some
time after the first Windows 98 Service Release, which is currently in beta
test and expected to be available from OEMs preloaded on new systems around

I'll leave most of sheldon's message alone as I don't want to start a my

I will correct one point though since I've been to a briefing on win2000 and
have the facts.
There will be 3 win2000 products,
home/small business (a replacement for nt workstation)
server (to replace nt server)
and enterprise (to replace the currently not much publicized windows nt
enterprise)
All of these will be based on a windows nt core.
This is why the wdm was introduced with windows98, so we wouldn't all be
left without drivers for our devices that would run on nt5/win2000 as it is
now called.
There will be no clean upgrade path from win9x to win2000.
Limited functionality will be available via an upgrade, but to take
advantage of features such as ntfs
(the nt file system) and other nt specific features,
you will require a full reinstall.
Since everything will be running atop an nt kernel, the screen reader will
also need to be nt compatible.
I hope this clears this issue up.
