I am using dectalk pc with the 4.2b drivers.  This is on two systems.  Yes,
it locks occasionally, but not often enough to really matter.  I continue to
use it as it i is more clear than the software synthsizers and also because
I still use some reliable dos applications (and software synths don't work
in dos).  Havenj't had any port problems with it.  Anyhow, if you are using
the internal card, the serial port shouldn't be an issue just your
communications ports.
