Hi, I too ran into this problem a while back when I tried to install my new hp6250c scanner. one of the software applications that was accompanied with hp scanjet procession pro was the adobe photo business edition. attached with this program was the adobe type manager. I'm not sure what it does but all I know is that for a couple of days I didn't know what was causing my computer to crash as soon as jaws would load into memory. I tried reinstalling windows 98 but that didn't do anything. I tried, with safe mode, deleting all the hp software bundled in my CD and it wasn't until I got to jaws that my computer was able to boot successfully. Well I didn't understand what happened, so what I did was run UnInstaller from Cyber media so that I could uninstall any remaining programs from HP and after reboot, I tried to reinstall the hp software once again. I installed everything successfully as prior, and before attempting to restart my computer I Eventually, ran doctor jaws with a hot key and let the famous doctor jaws do it's business. Well low and behold it found the adobe type manager active. Thankfully it gave me an option to disable this program which runs in the back ground. My suggesiton, for now, since there is no automatic solution from HJ, is that you guys, whenever you install a new program that you run doctor jaws via hot key to find out if there are any new settings or whatnot that may need to be changed in order to run jaws affectively.
