I think I might have something to add to the previous comments about hot
keys to launch programs rather than finding them on the start menu. This
works for computer keyboards that do not have a windows key. For example,
I use control alt W to launch Word, control alt e to launch eudora, and
control alt x to launch Windows Explorer.
This is a rather long process, and I hope I get it correct:
First go to the start menu . by pressing control and escape.
Press alt plus the enter key and the properties dialog box will come up.
This has two pages to it. You can move between the two pages by pressing
control plus tab. The page that you want is "customize start menu".
Tab down through the choices until you find "advanced" and select it with
the enter key.
Then you will find yourself on a screen that looks like the regular windows
explorer menu. This time, though, it will be showing the choices that are
on the start menu. Go down through the list of choices and make the
appropriate selections until you find yourself at the program you want a
shortcut for.
Press alt plus the enter key again. Here you will find yourself at another
multi page dialog box. This time you want to choose the page titled "Target"
Tab down through the choices until you find Hot Key. If there has been no
hot key assignment, it will say none. Whatever you press will become the
hot key. Common choices for hot keys are control plus alt plus a letter
key.
Be careful not to modify any of the edit fields on this page or the
computer may not be able to find the program you want to launch.
Tab on down to the OK button and hit enter. Press alt plus F4 to close the
next window and then tab on down to the ok button and hit enter again. You
are backing out of the various screens you went through to get to the hot
key shortcut.
