One of the reasons why some are getting double messages is this:
Messages are being addressed to the mailing list and also to individuals in
the "To" or "CC" fields.
Take, for example, your lastt message, Carlos.
The header read as follows:
Reply-To: "Carlos a. Sanchez, Jr. " <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
From: "Carlos a. Sanchez, Jr. " <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Re: double messages
Date: Mon, 8 Feb 1999 12:24:02 -0500
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 4.72.3110.1
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3
Sender: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Note there were two "Reply to" fields and, sure enough, when I addressed
this message, both Carlos and the JFW List were getting copies.
To prove it, I have left this with no alteration, so Carlos you should get
two copies of this! <GRINS>
I have discovered in the past week or two just how important it is to check
message headers before they go out and, honestly, it shouldn't really often
be necessary (unless someone says they're going to be absent from the List
for a while) for a CC to be sent to an individual. That's my general view
and I do recognise there are exceptions.
So, each time we get a double message, we ought to look at the headers and
see whether this is the problem before Nick has to check what's going on.
Sorry, Nick and all, for this "off topic" message but, because of the many
duplicates received, I guess it's really become a necessity and I thought
I'd explain what I was seeing.
I suggest everyone thinks twice before responding to this on the list. If
it can be done privately, or by writing directly to Nick, let's do it and
keep the traffic down!
