Hi All:
We have a major problem involving JFW 3.2 and DecExpres. We have a machine
on which we run Windows 95. We installed JFW with DecExpress as the
default Synth, followed by DecAccess32 and Eloquence. The DecTalk Express
drivers are set to load from the autoexec.bat. (we've tried this both
ways--remarked out and not. Periodically, we need to get into our client
database, which, until early spring, is still DOS-based. We have the icon
for this on the Start Menu and on the desktop. The icon on the desktop's
properties show that it loads in a window rather than in a full screen.
The one on the Start Menu loads under full screen. This is the way my
colleague wants it so she can see it better. This way, she also has a
choice of whether to use one with speech or without.
Now, we have made sure that the option under the Advanced Settings in
Config manager to use a DOS screen reader is unchecked.
Okay, so we go to the database icon on the desktop, set screen echo to say
all, and press Enter. We end up losing speech, but JAWS is still active.
We close out of the application and try it from the Start Menu and lose
speech again. We have also tried this with WordPerfect 5.1 which she needs
to use periodically. While doing this, we've had MS Access open and have
tried to switch back and forth, but there's no speech after we've gotten
into the DOS application.
Strangely enough, we can press Insert-J, go to Language, press C for Change
Synthesizers and press Enter on DecExpress and it comes back, even though
it is still checked all along.
The DecExpress is brand new, and when it comes on it says DecTalk 4.2C.
Okay, gang, does anybody have a clue? I hope I haven't confused anyone too
terribly much.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
Michael
