I do not remember who posted to the list regarding the problems they had
with Nuts and Bolts, but as someone who has used the product I tought I
would chime in here. Other people on this list may or may not agree with
what I am about to say, but here goes. Utility packages such as Nuts and
Bolts and Norton Utilities consist of a ton of programs. If you just do an
automatic install of course they are going to throw everythihg, but the
kitchen sink onto your computer. In fact practically all windows programs
do this when you install them. they modify your registery and ini files,
they add things to your start menu and in some cases can modify your
desktop. This is why I never do a typical install of anything. I always
do a custom install so I can choose exactly what modifications are made to
my system during an install. This probably could have saved you a lot of
grief in your Nuts and Bolts situation because I custom installed it and
didn't allow it to add any programs to my start nemu which eliminated any
possible conflicts. In short, a good rule of thumb, at least in my
opinion, is always perform a custom install so you are in control, not the
install program.
