Sound Cards

I am using an AWE-64 sound card with Eloquence. It was working fine until my
SO installed some AWe 64 sound software.  Then it started to reverberate and
do other weird things.

We uninstalled the software, but now Eloquence will stop reading mid-line.
I can finish the line with insert+right arrow, but it's awkward.

Suggestions.
