sound in emaill

Got a  question don't know if jaws has anything to do with this or not, I
went in to sounds on my controll panell and asigned a sound for new mail,
my question is,would you only hear that sound if say you are in another
application and yu get new mail, because, when I am in my emaill program:
internetmaill if I leave it up, and get new messages jaws reads the last
message I was on, but I get no sound?just curious.
