Hi Karen,
You compact folders in Outlook Express by going to the file menue and
selecting compact or compact all folders. When folders are compacted you
don't lose your messages. They are still there where you can read them as
if you did nothing. All compacting does is squash them down so that they
take up less room on your hard drive. If you send messages to your trash
folder and you have it set up to impty the trash folder on exit then they
will be practically unrecoverable unless you have some kind of undelete
utility.

I apologize if this isn't set for plain text - I tried! Normally I use
Eudora, but because I train clients on different e-mail clients, I have set
up OE to handle my listserv mail.
OE keeps compacting files. I don't delete things because I want to refer to
them again, like e-mail addresses, screen reader comparisons, file
announcements, etc.
Where does it compact things to and how do I get them back?
In Eudora I archive mailboxes every six months and start over again, I can
get at information when I need it.
Which reminds me, was it this list that had the comparison of Windows Eyes
and JAWS development strategies? If so please send it to me privately.
