Just to add to this thread, here at the tech center, we hae a Braille
Window 45, an alva abt340, and a braille lite 40. All of them work
wonderfully with jFW, my preference leaning more towards the braille lite
due to its portability, extreme ease of access, and its ability to double
as a speech synthesizer, not with jfw, though, and a wonderful notetaker.
The braille window offers some nice features as well, including that
ability to click the mouse with the cursor routing buttons. I don't like
the alva as much, but the braille quality of the alva is great. I would
recommend gettinbg abraille lite 40, or a braille window. They both cost
about the same, but I think the blt40 wins out due to its ability to do
more than be a braille display. I do not work with ?Blazie Engineering, I
am just an adaptive technology specialist, but I really think that the
blt40 as a braille display/notetaker is the best braille display value for
the dolar. It is only about $5500, but you get a great notetaker in
addition to a braille display that is supported wonderfully in JFW, as well
as WindowBridge, and I think OutSpoken works with it as well. And you can
use it as a speech synthesizer, although you can't us the speech and
braille access simultaneously under JFW. That should be a feature added in
a future driver update. If ou would like more info about the braille lite
or braille window, email me. And while I haven't exactly bashed Alva's
displays, they are very good, I just think the braille window and
especially the braille lite do more, have better access and support, and
are just better all around products. However, I haven't tested the new alva
displays like the delphi multimedia displays which are supposed to be
great, if youread the literature.
