Try going to My Computer, Control Panel, Multimedia, and open Multimedia.
In there you need to open the properties for your sound card and set the
type of driver and make sure that you get to an apply button for the cd
player. Then, go back to the Volume Control and set the volume. To exit out
of Volume Control, use alt-F4. Oh, after you hit the apply button you need
to tab around until you come to an OK button and make sure you have
completely gone through all settings and closed Multimedia on an OK button
which will then leave you in the Control Panel. Make sure you use alt-F4
until you have closed everything and see if you then have your sound back.
You might have to reboot the computer. Hope this is helpful.
