Changes in JAWS for Windows Version 3.3
JAWS for Windows 3.3 features a number of
enhancements and improvements to JFW 3.2. To

JFW now features greatly enhanced support
for Internet Explorer 5, the components of
Microsoft Office 2000, PowerPoint 97,
RealPlayer G2, and GoldMine contact
management software. Improved scripts have
also been provided for Access 97, Excel 97,
Outlook 98, Word 98, Eudora Pro, and Eudora
Lite.

New and Improved Eloquence for JFW Voices
The newest version of Eloquence for JFW
feature greatly improved voices! The new
voices are easier to understand and will
speak much faster if the user chooses.
Includes "HJPad" - A Completely Accessible
Word Processor
HJPad is a basic word processing program
where you can create, open, spell check,
format, and save documents. Also, five
sample dialogs have been created in HJPad
for the purposes of training the new user.
Now users can learn how to operate the many
dialog controls found throughout the Windows
operating system using these sample dialogs
and without the concern that they are
altering valuable information in another
program. In HJPad, choose from the five
dialogs located in the Tools/Sample Dialogs
submenu: Single Page 1, Single Page 2,
Multi-Page, List View, and Tree View.
SayAll by line, Sentence or Paragraph
Using Configuration Manager JAWS can be set
to speak by line, sentence, or paragraph.
This affects the way in which text that is
sent to the synthesizer is spoken. This
feature can be used to produce more natural
speech patterns. To change the setting
without changing the default, use the Adjust
JAWS Verbosity dialog, INSERT+V.
Read Blank Lines in SayAll
Previously when SayAll was selected, blank
lines were not spoken. In JFW 3.3 the user
will hear the word blank spoken when a blank
line appears in a document. This feature can
be toggled in Configuration Manager.
System Tray Dialog Box
This feature displays Items in the system
tray in list form so that the user can
easily review or change settings.
Grade 2 Braille Translation
JFW 3.3 supports grade 2 Braille. To
activate this feature, set "Grade 2 Braille"
as the default in Configuration Manager. For
optional grade 2 Braille use find the
suitable Braille display keystroke in
Keyboard Manager and use it to toggle on and
off. This feature also makes it possible to
translate the word that contains the active
cursor.
Auto Graphics Labeler
When invoked , this feature automatically
assigns a text label to graphics that are
not already labeled. Automatic graphics
labeling is limited to graphics with
associated Tool Tips. The keystroke for this
feature is INSERT+CTRL+G.
Network Authorization
Now network users of JFW 3.3 can work on any
computer in their network as long as the
computer is mapped to the drive containing
the authorization key. This feature applies
to Windows 95 and 98, Windows NT, Novel, and
Unix servers and stations. To obtain network
authorization, please contact Henter-Joyce
Sales Department.
Text Attribute Announcement
JFW will now, optionally, announce changes
to text attributes like font size, font
style, color, indentation and others. This
feature can be toggled and customized in the
JFW Configuration Manager.
JAWS Task List
The JAWS Task List allows the user to switch
between, close, or see the state of
applications in their system. Applications
that are running appear in alphabetical
order in the JAWS Task list box, with the
first application highlighted. This is
implemented by pressing INSERT+F10.
Available actions are:
About: Brings up a small dialog
with a copyright message and the
version of JTL.
Close: Closes the highlighted
application.
Exit: Exits JTL without changing
the state of any application.
Maximize: Maximizes the
highlighted application.
Minimize: Minimizes the
highlighted application.
Run: Runs a new application just
as if the user had chosen Run from
the start menu.
Switch To: Restores the
highlighted application and gives
it focus.
Announcement of Cursor Shape
In Windows 95 and 98, the user can now elect
to hear JAWS announce changes in their
cursor shape. This feature is not available
in Windows NT.
Comprehensive Online Help System
The JFW help system has been enlarged to
include more detailed information about
popular applications, Braille displays and,
of course, all of the new features of JAWS
for Windows 3.3.
Improved Laptop Keyboard Layout
The keyboard layout for laptop computers has
been redesigned. Please refer to the help
topic on laptops for a complete list.
Improved Scripting Capabilities
A number of new and powerful additions have
been added to the JFW Script Language. For
further information, consult the script
documentation files in the JFW Script
Manager.
Key Labeling/Silencing
A customizing feature activated when Typing
Echo is set, the user can silence either
alphabetical or numeric keys as desired. Go
to Configuration Manager, Keyboard Options,
Key Labels.
JAWS Message Voice
The message voice is a configurable option
which will cause JAWS to use a different
voice when it speaks text that does not
appear on the screen.
