I've outlined this before, but for those who missed it,
There is a known (but not admitted to) incompatibility issue with the implementation
of USB on many of Toshiba's notebooks.
As far as we have been able to determine this incompatibility effects all Toshiba
notebooks using the NEC USB chipset.
However, as Toshiba refuses to admit that the problem exists, and on the rare occasion
that someone does admit it exists they are unable to provide accurate information
about which notebooks are effected,
it's been my policy to advise people to avoid toshiba in general.
Tow of my clients purchased toshiba notebooks through me *on the advice of toshiba who
had been told that we specifically needed notebooks which did not have the
incompatibility and that we were aware of its existance so there was no point denying
it*
and of course they still had the incompatibility.
This was a large waste of time and money for all concerned.
In short, if you want reliability go with a company who doesn't have known faults with
their products that they won't admit to publicly.
I stand by my recommendation to avoid Toshiba.

Aaron
