Like you I'm a Powerbraille-40 user andcan confirm exactly
what you're saying about a bug in the osm and
a continual need to refresh it, in my case, most commonly
in telnet programs, and like you, have reported the problem
repeatedly but without any useful feedback from HJ.
I'm now just starting to play with scripts to automate the refresh
to get around the problem that way, something of an overkill
solution, but better than not knowing if what you're reading
is all thats there or not.
Also, like you, I've noticed the "reluctance" of pan-right to work when
first pressed and have notified HJ of the problem during the public
beta test.
I'm of the opinion that jfw is the best screenreader around for speech
and braille support and hope messages like these encourage HJ to pay a
little more attention to bugs reported and rid the program of
what is only a very few irritating problems.
nb. The pan right problem is particularly annoying when reviewing
e-mails on the topic of irritating bugs.

I have JFW3.3 and a Powerbraille 40, running Windows 95. Since
JFW2, I have had exactly the same problem you describe when
navigating in the Start Menu while the braille display is in line
mode (which is how I use it most of the time - I never use
structured mode). At first I thought (on advice from HJ) that it
might be a video-related problem, so I changed cards, only to
find that the problem is still there. When the braille display is
in Speechbox mode, all the information is displayed, so it must
have something to do with line mode. As Lee mentioned in his
message, refreshing the OSM (Insert+Escape) will generally make
the missing items appear. I have reported this probelm on at
least half-a-dozen occasions to HJ, most recently in my comments
about the 3.3 public beta, but with no (positive) result.
While on the subject of JFW and braille, I wonder if anyone else
is encountering the following problem, when the braille dipslay
is in line mode, and positioned at the start of a line, pressing
the Panright button (on the PowerBraille 40, this is the small
square button on the top right of the display) does not move the
dipslay until the button is pressed a second or third time. This
has only started happening since the 3.3 beta, and again I have
reported it to HJ. It is still there in the final 3.3 release.
I would welcome dissent, but I mjust say that so far I'm
disappointed with 3.3, at least insofar as braille is concerned.
It's a pity, for example, that the Java support isn't included,
and none of the bugs relating to braille seem to have been fixed.
