Hi Folks,
I'm doing development in Oracle8, here, and I am useing Oracle's SQLPLUS
environment to compile my procedures and packages. In this environment, I am not
using SQLPLUS to edit my code - only to compile it. You can use your favorite
text editor to write the code. You can also make your errors go to a text file
and bring them up and correct them, if you have a text editor that can edit more
than one file. I could spend some time writing scripts for the environment to
make things a little easier, but it's fairly workable by just setting JFW to
echo all the text on the screen, if you set up your environment the right way.
The only disadvantage to the set up is that it's hard to share your SQL if you
work in a team environment. There are tools like NavSQL that make that easier,
but I haven't played with that much, because the learning curve on the Oracle
end has been pretty steep to this point. I'd like to try that as soon as I can
get free enough.
