now about your problem upgradeing, well that is a known bug, that occured with
version 3.
call symantec ask for the newest version of norton on cd rom.
or use browser and do a manual download.
i personally raised a little caine and got a free cd.
mainly because they did not do a very good job of informing users.
this bug also disables norton recycle bin
go into their recycle bin and see if you get missing v d x file.
do so before you loose some valuable data.
in addition even if you decide to download fixmanually you still need to call
norton which is owned by symantec to get the u r l of patch.
my friend rob hubbard who informed me of this bug used this fix.
the bug report is in a read me file, or so he told me, i never read them.
by the way i use win 98 defrag with norton system works 1.
of course that goes into set up.
98 defrag does not have to be modified to defrag, by default it does not hurt
the key.
