Stacy, I use typing echo set to words exclusively.
I find that faster typists do this, else at times the computer will
freeze because JFW is trying to process so many characters &
interruptability is only so effective--at least, that's my experience
and that of many of my folks. Slower typists tend to keep typing echo
set to characters, but I notice a marked tendency for them to switch
when they become more comfortable & confident in their typing
abilities. Many faster typists tell me that character echo drives them
nuts, and, because they are typing so quickly, word echo gives them a
much better sense of when they have made an error as opposed to
character echo.
