Hi,
Well, I found another word which makes Eloquence crash! This is analogous to
the prag-matically and aes-thetically situation I discovered in December.
(Why is it always me who finds these?!) I've already sent a report of this
to HJ, so no need for others to do so at this point. I'm sending this to the
list as a reminder that if your system crashes for unexplained reasons while
using Eloquence, it may be due to a random word that Eloquence doesn't
"like." Despite what we thought, this bug is still alive and well with the
new Eloquence and JFW 3.3.
I'll put spaces between the letters of the naughty word, so that those of you
reading with Eloquence won't crash. I was reading the online headlines from
my local newspaper, and came across the word Cota (a person's last name, as
well as the name of a local street here) with the possessive suffix 's
attached to it. For whatever random reason, Cota works fine, but C o t a ' s
(without the spaces!) crashes Eloquence and forces me to reboot. Go figure!
As with the work-around for the other two naughty words, I'll put it in the
JFW dictionary so that Eloquence sees it as "c o t a s" rather than "C o t a
' s" and thus won't crash. However, it seems to me that HJ needs to get to
the bottom of this general problem, so that we won't have to worry about JFW
sporadically crashing. Makes me nervous to continue using Eloquence: what
other random words are there which will make it crash? I prefer to use
Eloquence over other synthesizers, because I like its speed, responsiveness,
and voice quality. However, it is disconcerting to know that the program may
crash at any time, for no apparent reason than encountering a word it doesn't
"like."
Just thought I'd warn people. If you've been having unexplained crashes with
Eloquence, be sure to check if it's crashing because of a word.
